What is a
dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth's root used to be. Over a few months the bone grows around it and the post becomes a fixed anchor. A custom crown is then attached on top, and that crown is the only part you ever see.

Because the implant stands on its own, nothing is done to the neighboring teeth. It also keeps the jawbone underneath stimulated, which prevents the bone loss that follows a missing tooth. Planning starts with a CBCT scan, a 3D image of your jaw that shows bone height, bone width, nerve pathways, and sinus position. How long do dental implants take?

Most single implants take a few months from placement to final crown, and most of that is healing time while the bone bonds to the post. Some cases move faster, and some need a bone graft first, which adds a few months. Your timeline comes from your scan and consultation.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The area is fully numbed, so you feel pressure, not pain. Most patients describe the days after as sore rather than painful and manage with over-the-counter medication. Most patients here report a quick recovery, and anti-anxiety medication is available if you want it.

How much do dental implants cost?

A single dental implant typically runs $1,500 to $3,000, and more if bone grafting is needed first. Most dental plans do not cover implants in full, so we go over your benefits, financing, and our in-house membership plan with you. Your exact fee is set at your consultation, and the 3D CBCT scan used to plan it is free.

How do I care for a dental implant?

Brush twice a day with a soft brush, floss around it daily, and keep your regular cleanings, where we check the gum and bone around the implant. Do not smoke, which is the single biggest risk to a healing implant.

Is a dental implant right for you?

The best time to replace a tooth is before the bone around it is gone.

Implants suit most healthy adults who are missing one tooth or several. What matters is healthy gums, enough bone to hold the post, and a willingness to keep the area clean. Certain medical conditions and smoking make healing harder, not impossible. The CBCT scan and a consultation with Dr. Bhoompalli settle it.

  • One missing tooth

    A single implant fills the gap without grinding down the teeth on either side, which is what a bridge requires.

  • Several missing teeth

    Two or more implants can carry a bridge, so you do not need one implant for every tooth you have lost.

  • A tooth that cannot be saved

    A cracked or badly decayed tooth can be removed and the implant placed, sometimes in the same appointment.

  • Loose or uncomfortable dentures

    Implants can anchor a denture so it stops slipping, and no adhesive is needed to hold it in place.

What is a CBCT scan, and why is it free here?

A cone beam CT is a quick 3D x-ray of your jaw taken right in the office. It shows bone height and width, nerve pathways, and sinus position, none of which a flat x-ray can. Dr. Bhoompalli plans every implant from it, so we include the scan free with your implant consultation rather than plan from a guess.

Will I be without a tooth while the implant heals?

For a front tooth, a temporary tooth can usually be made so the gap is not visible. For a back tooth, many patients simply leave the space during healing. You will know which applies to you before anything is placed.

Can an implant go in the same day a tooth is pulled?

Sometimes. If the socket is free of infection and there is enough bone, the implant can be placed in the same appointment as the extraction, which saves a full healing cycle. The scan and the exam decide whether that is safe in your case.

What if I do not have enough bone?

A bone graft rebuilds the area, and the implant follows once it has healed, usually a few months later. Upper back teeth sometimes need a sinus lift for the same reason. Both are routine and are planned from the CBCT scan.

Do implants ever fail?

Rarely. Success rates are above 95 percent. When an implant does fail it is usually early, from infection or smoking during healing, and it can often be replaced once the site has recovered.

Who makes and fits the final crown?

The crown is custom made from a scan or impression of the healed implant and fitted here by Dr. Bhoompalli, the same dentist who planned the case. She coordinates every step, so you always know who to call.

Does insurance cover dental implants?

Some plans pay part of the crown or the extraction; few cover the implant itself in full. We check your benefits before you commit, and financing and an in-house membership plan are available for the rest.
