your first exam?

The visit starts with a conversation. Dr. Bhoompalli asks about your health history, any medications, and what brought you in, whether that is a specific worry or simply that it has been a while. Anything you tell her shapes what she looks for next.

Then comes the exam itself: every tooth, your gums, the soft tissue of your mouth, and a screening for oral cancer. Digital x-rays show what a visual exam cannot, including decay between teeth, bone levels, and anything forming under the surface.

Two things set this exam apart. She checks your occlusion, how your upper and lower teeth meet, because a bite that is off wears teeth and strains the jaw. And she looks at your airway, since a restricted airway is often behind grinding, poor sleep, and headaches that no filling will fix.

You leave with a plain explanation of what was found and a plan built around prevention and your overall health, not a list of procedures to sell, even after years away from the dentist.

How long does a first visit take?

Plan on about an hour. The consultation, exam, and x-rays each take a few minutes, and the rest is time to talk through what was found.

Does the exam hurt?

No. The exam is a visual and hands-on check, and the x-rays are painless. If anything found needs treatment, that is planned for another day, and nothing is ever done in pain. Patient comfort is the first priority here.

How much does a new patient exam cost?

For new patients, the exam and x-rays are $99. Most dental plans cover a new patient exam and x-rays as preventive care, so if you have insurance, your out-of-pocket cost may be lower still. Any treatment recommended afterward is quoted separately before you commit.

What happens after the exam?

If your mouth is healthy, you are scheduled for a routine cleaning and checkup, usually every six months. If something needs attention, Dr. Bhoompalli explains the options, what happens if you wait, and the cost of each, so you can decide without pressure.

There is no wrong reason to book. Some patients come in because something hurts, some because it has been years, and some because another office handed them a plan they were not sure about. The exam is the same thorough look either way, and treatment is only ever recommended when the findings call for it.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Your insurance card, a list of any medications you take, and a note of anything that has been bothering you, even if it seems minor. If you have x-rays from a previous dentist taken in the last year or two, ask that office to send them over so we can compare.

Are the x-rays safe?

Yes. Digital dental x-rays use a very small dose of radiation, far less than older film x-rays, and we only take the images that are needed to see what a visual exam cannot. If you are pregnant, tell us when you book and we will plan around it.

Why do you check my bite and my airway?

Because they cause problems that show up elsewhere. A bite that does not meet evenly wears teeth down, cracks fillings, and strains the jaw. A narrow airway can mean grinding, poor sleep, and headaches. Both are easy to check and often overlooked, so Dr. Bhoompalli looks at them on every new patient.

Will I get a cleaning at the same visit?

The $99 offer covers the exam and x-rays. A cleaning is scheduled separately, so ask about one when you book.

I have not seen a dentist in years. Will I be judged?

No. Long gaps are common, and the only thing that matters is where your mouth is today. Nothing is done in pain, and if you are anxious, tell us. We can go slowly, explain each step before it happens, and talk through options like calming medication or music during your visit.

Do you accept my insurance?

Most dental plans are accepted, and most cover an exam and x-rays for new patients. Call with your plan details and ask us to verify your benefits before treatment. If you do not have insurance, ask about the in-house membership plan.

Can I get a second opinion on a treatment plan from another office?

Yes, and many patients come to us for exactly that. Bring the other office's plan and any x-rays they took. Dr. Bhoompalli will examine you, explain what she sees, and tell you plainly whether she would recommend the same treatment, less, or something different.
